Plant-based protein snacks are protein-rich snacks that quickly supply the body with new protein and energy during high physical exertion.
They contain no chemical additives and are made from rice protein or pea protein. You can also get highly effective protein bars in various fruit variations with a peanut or chocolate taste.
The high protein content supports muscle building, activates energy reserves in competitive athletes, bodybuilding, fitness training or even at work.
A protein bar is an extremely practical snack which immediately provides high-quality protein & energy for the body and muscles.
Vegan protein bars are beneficial for those on a diet. They’re handy especially when cravings start; people choose this healthy snack instead of burgers, pastries or candy bars.
They’re also life-savers for long outdoor activities. As a snack at work, they provide fresh energy during a mid-afternoon lull.
If you're vegan, protein bars provide valuable proteins. While non-vegans and athletes use these bars to supplement their daily protein intake.
Also popular among bodybuilders, runners or cyclists because the protein content of these bars are high-quality.
First of all, take a close look at the list of ingredients. The shorter the list of ingredients, the better.
Not a must, but definitely a plus is if the product is organic and / or contains raw ingredients.
This means there are no unwanted substances that could harm your health. And the more natural ingredients there are, the higher the health benefits.
With regard to intolerance or allergies, always look if the bars contain nuts or allergens.
Again, it is important that you take a close look at what the protein bars contain because there may be some chemical-looking names that aren't as bad as they sound.
If necessary, contact the manufacturer.
The protein content should not be less than 15 g. It is also important to know which protein source was used. Hemp, chia and quinoa are high in quality protein.
A protein bar gets a big plus if it contains fiber, even better if it’s high-quality. Fibers promote good digestion that have positive effects in cardiovascular, digestive and brain health.
On some bars there is the term “net carbs” which basically means carbs absorbed by the body. This is calculated by subtracting the amount of fiber from the total amount of carbohydrates.
If there are less net carbs than protein, that is a good vegan protein bar.
Some protein bars are just candy bars hiding behind some healthy slogan. These are sugar bombs that don't benefit the body at all.
Pay attention to the amount of sugar and the quality of sugar used. Avoid those made with refined white sugar and artificial sweeteners.
Go for natural sweetness from dates, Stevia, syrup or cane sugar.
Protein bars should not contain excessive amounts of fat. Around 10 grams to a 100 gram servings are fine.
Your health is valuable, it is only necessary to ensure that the food you’re putting in your body is of great quality.
But of course, as valuable as the bars for your health may be, you certainly don't want to spend a small fortune on them.
If you would like to treat yourself to something good and expensive - then do it!
However, practicality being considered, why would you spend an insane amount on a protein bar when you can get the same quality at a lower price?
Any product being bought online these days rely on good reviews.
When people can’t stop talking about a certain product and share its benefits and delicious taste others are inclined to try.
So check out what others have to say first especially when the product is expensive. Would it be worth your money? Would you get the same ingredients in other less expensive brands?
Yes you can! They’re not that difficult to make and you'll know they’re healthy because you know exactly what ingredients are used.
You have control over sugar, carbohydrates and additives. And most importantly, DIY protein bars are way cheaper!
1. Asian Vegan Dishes
Asian cuisine contains virtually no dairy products and naturally uses vegetables. From fried noodles to various curries--you name it, they can be made with vegetables.
But be careful, curries and other Asian dishes, use fish sauce as a basic ingredient. You can alternate this with regular table salt or pink Himalayan salt.
2. Vegan Protein Bars & Bites
Today, there are a lot of vegan protein bars made of popular superfoods that fight cravings. They’re made of nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and other natural additives.
Sugar-free and nut-free bars are also available. These bars are handy especially when you’re too busy to prepare a healthy breakfast for your kids. You can supplement their basic PB&J with vegan protein bars, for example.
3. Fruits, Nuts & Seeds
Nuts are ideal snacks because they’re packed with essential fatty acids & vitamins, they’re convenient to take anywhere and, of course, vegan!
These little pieces ensure you get a feeling of fullness quickly and your hunger is kept within limits.
Along with nuts, fruit slices are also handy snacks to satisfy pangs of hunger. Bananas, apples, pears, grapes, berries are all easy to pack together with your gluten-free sandwich or just take them as is.
Fruit slices are also popular for kids. You can make your own trail mix with your favorite dried fruit pieces, nuts and seeds.
And as easy to make are vegan energy balls from these same ingredients. Here’s a recipe for you.
4. Veggie Chips and Dips
Tired of the ‘ol homemade potato chips? Try beetroot, carrot, parsnips, kale, zucchini or sweet potatoes!
Yep, these homemade veggie chips are really cheap!
You can bake almost any vegetable, thinly sliced with a little splash of vegetable oil and your own spices. Put them in the oven at around 150°C until they are nice and crispy.
If you want to experiment more, try roasted chickpeas! With an extra vegan dip, snacking becomes a real experience.
But why not just dip fresh & raw vegetable sticks? Dip carrot or cucumber sticks into your homemade vegan dip.

5. No-cheese Cheese Sticks
Here’s what you’ll need for a whole sheet full of delicious crispy sticks
250 g frozen vegan puff pastry
150 g cashew nuts
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp yeast flakes
1 tsp lemon juice
1 onion, finely chopped
1 clove of garlic
Salt & pepper
To prepare:
6. Popcorn
The most popular movie snack is popcorn, as we all know.
Vegan version is freshly popped fresh corn kernels with herbal salt.
Or a healthier alternative is puffed quinoa which you can definitely make at home!
7. Gummy bears
Just because some gummy bears available without gelatin doesn't mean they are vegan. In long lists of ingredients, it is difficult to recognize the hidden animal products at all.
Even dried berries or homemade fruit gums made from syrup and the vegan gelling agent agar agar are much more transparent.
8. Cookies
Small pieces of chocolate in a crispy biscuit dough really look good. However, cookies from the supermarket usually don’t contain enough nutrients and they’re always too sweet.
Homemade raw food cookies or brownies made from just four natural vegan ingredients are clearly the better snack alternative.
9. Chocolate
Almost all of us just can’t do without chocolate!
Fortunately, homemade chocolate made from cocoa butter, cocoa powder and agave syrup is ideal for experimenting with other ingredients such as raisins, nuts, seeds and berries.
This is a healthier and cheaper alternative to finished chocolate, but also the more creative.
10. Energy bars
Mass produced power bars can be expensive. And you’re not always sure of the ingredients.
Similar to protein bars, you can make energy bars or balls yourself by using natural ingredients like dried fruits, nuts and seeds.
You can also take them on the go, or simply store in the fridge to enjoy anytime you like.
Here are some vegan protein bars, bites and balls recipes you can definitely make at home:
