Soy has become a big component of a plant-based diet, but debates have raged for decades over whether soy really produces certain health benefits. Soy sensitivity and intolerance is a condition that affects a significant proportion of the population especially those who are trying to be more plant based.
So what's the issue with Soy? Soy contains trypsin and protease inhibitors, which interfere with the enzymes needed for the degradation and exploitation of proteins. This leads to problems with the pancreas, stomach and whole digestive system, and it jeopardizes our normal growth and development.
Additionally Soy products can be heavily cross contaminated with gluten just due to its farming practises. Farmers commonly grow soybeans in rotation with wheat crops. That means the farmers use the same fields to grow soy and wheat, along with the same combines to harvest them, the same storage facilities to keep them and the same trucks to transport them to market. As a result, bits of wheat get mixed in with the soy harvest.
A 2010 study by celiac dietitian Tricia Thompson on gluten in so-called 'gluten-free' grains found that soy was one of the most cross-contaminated grains—in fact, one sample of soy flour contained a whopping 2,925 parts per million of gluten. Many people report reacting to soy in a similar fashion as they do to wheat and other gluten grains.
Lastly one of the key reasons to avoid Soy proteins is that 91-98% of the world’s soy is genetically modified. The genetic modification is done to impart resistance to the toxic herbicide Roundup. While this is meant to increase farming efficiency and provide you with less expensive soy, the downside is that your soy is loaded with this toxic pesticide. This toxic pesticide has been fingered in many cancers especially kidney cancer and there is concern that it may cause Parkinson’s Disease.
We all know that it can be difficult to maintain a plant based and soy free diet, especially when we’re busy and unable to prepare or buy soy free meals or snacks. Our 100% soy free protein bars are perfect for work, trips out, or just when you’re in a hurry. Containing only the finest soy free, gluten free, dairy free, non-GMO, vegan, raw and kosher ingredients, Amrita protein bars are an excellent source of energy in moments of hunger or loss of energy.
Nowadays the market is flooded with plant based bars that maybe soy free but with overall poor nutritive value. So what makes Amrita protein bars so good? The key is in our premium quality and nutrient rich ingredients. All of our bars contain a variety of superfoods including coconut, chia seeds and quinoa. These ingredients have many nutritional and health benefits. Coconut contains lauric acid, a powerful healing agent that protects against viruses, bacteria and fungi. Chia seeds contain twice as much protein as any other seeds and grains, and are a great source of fibre. They also contain all of the essential amino acids, eight times more omega-3 than salmon, six times more calcium than milk, three times more iron than spinach, and six times more protein than beans. Quinoa contains a large number of antioxidants, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. It also contains valuable vitamins including B1, B2 and E. So when you want to eat healthily and you have a soy intolerance, Amrita Health Foods’ 100% plant based, soy free protein bars are the perfect addition to your diet.
